 FLAGLER COUNTY BEACHES
Long considered one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Northeast Florida, Flagler Beach and the surrounding area is a true beach lover’s delight. With 19 miles of gorgeous coquina and cinnamon-colored beaches, there’s plenty of room for sports, biking, walking, shing, or just relaxing in the sun.
e laid-back, coastal ambiance permeates all areas of life and is most notable on the beach. You are more likely to see dolphins and turtles than rowdy spring breakers, and entertainment comes in the form of the colorful characters who populate the town. e beach is known for its welcoming and pet-friendly policies, and lack of hi-rise hotels, condos, arcades, wax museums, or roller coasters.
is region of Florida is also known for having some of the best sur ng conditions and has been ranked the third best sur ng waves in Florida. Flagler Beach is also on the top of the list for shing from the surf, beachcombing, swimming, or just soaking up the sun.
Since sur ng is one of the region’s most popular sports, you’ll nd plenty of options to hang ten like a pro. Local surf shops o er lessons and surf camps are held each summer to teach you the basics and improve your form. With all the professional surfers living in the region, Flagler Beach is now home to the Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Competition each fall.
When you’ve had enough of the waves, why not spend some time whale watching. Simply join one of the many whale watching groups to catch sight of some of the most beautiful creatures in the water. Each year from December through March, right whales migrate to this area to give birth and nurse
their calves in warm, protected waters, before returning north to their feeding grounds o New England and Canada. Just o the coastline of Flagler Beach, some right whales make an appearance close to shore – sometimes within a quarter mile of the beach. Mothers can be seen nurturing their calves, and juvenile whales may be seen traveling or playing.
Another feature of this area is the Flagler Beach Municipal Pier. e pier rents shing poles and sells bait, and many enjoy casting a line on an easy afternoon with a friend. Other features that make Flagler Beach such a great choice for a day in the sun are free beach access and parking, low-priced admission to attractions, and inexpensive options for dining and accommodations.
